Union County occupies the extreme south eastern corner of the state of South Dakota, with Iowa and Nebraska as neighbors. The county seat is Elk Point. Union County is one of 66 counties in South Dakota. The estimated population In 2008 was 14,131. This was an increase of 12.3% from the 2000 census. The median Household income in 2007 for Union County was $56,951. Union County is 467 square miles and is an agriculture area (dairy products); hay, corn, soybeans; honey; and cattle and hogs.
